Privacy Policy

Overview
Welcome to Pause: Widen the Gap ("Pause", "we", "our", or "us"), available at pausegap.com. This Privacy Policy outlines our data security standards for the Pause application and website.
Data Stored Exclusively on Your Device
We do not operate backend servers that store your personal habit data. The following records exist exclusively in your browser's private local storage:
- Habit Timestamps: Exact times and intervals between logged cigarettes.
- Urge Wave Records: Cravings successfully delayed or surfed.
- Aesthetic Settings: Custom themes and visual preferences.
- Financial Goals: Currency, pack price, and daily cigarette targets.
- PIN Security: Optional SHA-256 PIN hash.
Third-Party Services & Network Requests
When you use the Pause web app (/app), the following third-party services receive network requests. No habit logs, notes, or personally identifying data are transmitted to any of them.
Nine named UI events are sent to PostHog's US endpoint (us.i.posthog.com) for stability monitoring. The events are: ride_wave_started, ride_wave_cancelled, ride_wave_completed, tab_switched, settings_updated (×2), breathing_exercise_started, breathing_exercise_completed, and daily_challenge_completed. Properties sent are limited to timer durations, exercise type, tab name, and theme name. Autocapture, session recording, and user profiles are all disabled.
The site is hosted on Vercel. Vercel Analytics collects anonymous page-view counts and Vercel Speed Insights measures Core Web Vitals (page load, layout shift, etc.). Vercel processes your request IP and user-agent to generate these metrics. No cookies are set and no personal identifiers are stored by Vercel's client-side scripts. See Vercel's Privacy Policy.
The app loads fonts from Fontshare (api.fontshare.com) and Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com). Your IP address and browser user-agent are visible to those servers when fonts are fetched. After the first visit the service worker caches the font responses, so subsequent offline use does not trigger new requests.
The optional trigger radar feature loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap tile servers (*.tile.openstreetmap.org). This only happens when you open the map view. OpenStreetMap's tile servers see your IP address and the geographic area of the tiles requested. No personal data is sent — tile requests do not include your stored habit data. See OSM Foundation Privacy Policy.
If you optionally submit a feature request or bug report through the in-app suggestion form, your message text and optional reply email are forwarded to the creator of Pause via FormSubmit's AJAX endpoint. No habit logs, timestamps, or tracking profiles are included in the submission. FormSubmit processes the request from their servers; see their documentation for their own data handling practices.
Your Data Sovereignty (GDPR & CCPA)
Because all personal data resides on your own device, you maintain full control:
- Export: Download your entire history as a JSON or CSV spreadsheet at any time.
- Delete: Wipe all records instantly from within the app settings.
